photo gallery, pick some elements you like from there and design an outfit that best represents your style as a designer. However, what's a designer without a muse? And for the purposes of NTD, your muse will be your model. Who are they? Are they shy? Adventurous? Crazy? Make sure your model makes a good impression on the judges so she doesn't have to hear that ugly NEEEXT!
Artzygrrl has been so kind as to do all the work... I mean, she's opened
a Discord chat for WIPs and inspiration. So if you're stuck, don't know what to do with your life or simply want to say hi, feel free to drop by.
And last but not least, what kind of journal would this be if there weren't any... Pug gifs, you say? No,
TIPS!1. Even if your work will be that of a designer, your model will be your avatar throughout the whole contest. Make sure they're a well-rounded character with a style and attitude of their own. Spending some time deciding what kind of person they are and how far they would go fashion-wise will help you in the long run: you will know what they would and, most importantly, what they would never wear; and all your entries will be more coherent.
2. Your first challenge consists on browsing photos, picking clothes and putting an outfit together. Take some time to simply put things together in a file and scribble, write or cut and paste things randomly. Don't try to make an outfit by mixing two pre-existing ones, that will limit your creativity. You're a grown up doller now, think before you doll.
3. Some people don't value bases as much as they should. The base is a blank canvas to work on and it can be edited in many ways. However, a base is not a completely blank slate; it comes with a message: its pose. Take advantage of the pose you pick (or edit) and use it to deliver your own interpretation of the round's theme. If you pick a base that concentrates most of its personality and attitude on the leg area, don't cover them with a heavy skirt that obscures all that action. If it's meant to interact with her hair or with some parts of the outfit, make that your priority when you work on those bits. Make sure the base tells us the story you want to tell.
4. Don't be afraid of showing your own personality as a designer. Not everyone can be a flamboyant diva, some of us simply stay in the background and shine when the moment's right. If you feel more comfortable with a more modest look, go for it. Think carefully about your strengths and how you can shine through your entries. Maybe you have an eye for detail, or you can achieve an ultra realistic look on a tiny scale. Maybe conceptual work is your forte. Think of what you're good at and exploit it.
AND NOW, THE PART YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR... TO THE PUG MOBILE!!
